When you have animals, the last couple hours before a storm are filled with last minute preparations: tarping open hay bales, fixing shelters, adding new bedding, checking heaters, etc. When snow storms come in, they are often preceded by what my family likes to call "the calm before the storm". Everything takes on an almost impossible stillness, like the earth is holding it's breath in anticipation for the coming storm. The other defining characteristic of this unique pre-storm time is the fog seeping in over the hills. In the midst of all the prep work for this particular storm, I had to stop and capture the moment where the fog was rolling in over the hills, the temperature had started dropping, and everything had gone still.
