While out taking pictures of some younger ducks, I was drawn to this mature drake who was over taking a drink. When Muscovy ducks are young, they don't have the caruncling on their faces yet. As they age, however, they develop the distinctive red skin that set them apart from other duck breeds. Drakes have very pronounced caruncles, and it makes for a very interesting looking bird. Catching sight of me approaching, this drake paused and stared at me for a while before deciding I wasn't threatening and going back to his water.
