Valmunder, one of our original Icelandic rams, has always been one of my favorite sheep to photograph. The wide and curling horns, the beautiful curly fleece, and the strong face make him an epic center to pretty much anything.
This afternoon we'd gone out to "morning" animal chores late, and it was hot. Hot, sunny, and dry. After finishing up most of my chores, I was waiting for the water to finish filling (pumping it from over the hill takes a lot of time) and jumped at the chance to pull out my camera. Bright sunlight can be a pain to work with, but it's a challenge worth facing because, done right, the pictures come out beautifully. I walked around the shade shelter and saw Valmunder sitting there, half in the sun, half in the shade. The contrast of lighting, the striking ram, the interesting setting... I couldn't resist taking the shot! Now this is one of my favorite pictures!
