I am a small-scale farmer and rancher. I believe that the earth should be richer, healthier, and more resilient BECAUSE we are here, not in-spite of us. God made man, and He put man here on the earth with the instruction to care for her. That means that people are supposed to be stewards, not just occupants, and definitely not mindless consumers. We have a responsibility to leave the earth richer for the generations that follow us: more abundant, more vibrant, more resilient. As a small-scale farmer, I am also an Earth Steward. That is my work, and it is a joy.
I am also a photographer. As a photographer, I love to help other farmers share the work they do with the world in a clearer, more effective way. Being a small-scale farmer is incredibly fulfilling and absolutely critical, not only to our national food security, but also to the health of our environment and ecosystems. Unfortunately, it is also very time consuming and generally not very lucrative. Not because it couldn't be, but because most farmers are great at farming. Marketing? Not so much. My goal is to give our small-scale farmers some power in their marketing corner: to capture their passion in pictures and enable them share that with the world.
"Elena has a real talent for livestock photography. When she showed up to my farm to pick up some sheep, I did not know that she was a photographer. In no time at all, she had snapped pictures of most of my flock, and they all turned out to be by far the best photos of my sheep! She really captured their best features. I am thrilled to have those images for marketing my flock.
She is also professional and lovely to talk to. Thank you, Elena!"

I remember the first time I discovered my love for photography: I was, mmm, maybe 12, and chickens were my heart and soul. I found out about a photo contest with a gift card for the top three winners from my all time favorite hatchery, Murray McMurray. Talk about motivation! I cornered my grandpa and asked to borrow his very professional and cool looking camera...
